Time to go back to reading our Epics!

I have rediscovered my love for the printed (on paper) word today. Its been a long time since I curled up with a book on a lazy afternoon . I need to wake up early daily so I lost my habit of reading late into nights ,thanks to my work timings. Suddenly I realised that I dont do much reading these days except for my facebook wall . (Though one reads e-books it nowhere compares to reading a real book) . That very moment I looked up online and ordered a few books and the first thing I did when they arrived was to ruffle the pages and smell the 'fragrance' of freshly printed books..!

I started reading 'Mahabharata' by C.Rajagopalachari a.k.a Rajaji. I would say Mahabharata is one of the best fiction/story that you can ever get to read . All the contemporary suspense/crime/mystery novels just enthral you momentarily . But Mahabharata will leave you a transformed person, impressing a lot of morals upon you making you a complete human . Apart from the spiritual cause there is some reason to believe that it has technological secrets embedded in it,far more advanced than we can perceive. To cite an example the original Sanskrit version mentions usage of Mercury vortex engines which is still in design stage in present day. Although one may not believe that the Great War occured, the very mention of the weapons that use technologically advanced handles can give a hint of the genius of our ancestors. This great epic is a must read for all those who are apathetic to our traditions/culture and are obsessed with the 'cool'ness of the west.

It would be a good start to read an abridged version first and then delve into the technical details in an 'as-is' translation from Sanskrit. Even better is to learn the Deiva Bhasha (an epithet for Sanskrit) and read through the original text (I plan to do it) and appreciate the ethical standards and scientific achievements of our lost past. Atleast then we would be ashamed of the abysmal fall in our ethical conduct and we would strive to live up to highest possible standards in life.

Chinese class..!!

These days I've been haunted by a new interest:Chinese. Well to begin vid, Chinese is a unique language vid lot many dialects ..but Mandarin is considered d official one .. Locally known as Pu Tong Hua, itz the most widely spoken language in the world!
Chinese is complex in itz pronounciation.there are highly varying inflections vich wud leave a casual listener wondering wat mood the speaker is in..!!
A simple word 'ma' pronouncd in 4 different ways can mean anything frm mother to horse to an enquiry...!!
Another peculiarity of Chinese is its script..Apparently der r more than 50,000 characters ,but not to panic, the Chinese Govt has decreed dat ppl knowin 1000 to 1500 characters wud b called literates..but u still need to know 3000 characters to read a newspaper ...!! :P

Chinese classes in d collg are being really entertaining... v get one bookmark evry clz vich has a simple 3 word sentence in it..and one day my bookmark read "Wo ai Ni" ....any guess wat it means?? "I love u" and thus my scope widened..!!! ;) :P

And in case u r interested .. "Ni jiao Shen ma meng zi" ...is watz ur name and
"Zhu ni sheng ri kuai le" is happy b'day to u ofcourz vid proper pronouciations...!!

Also d Chinese library in TT001 has loads of books on Chinese culture...!! Pretty excited to explore the interesting land beyond the Great Wall ..!!

Zai jian(gud bye) :)
